The City of Alamogordo, NM Police Department issued the following press release announcing further online system upgrades for reporting issues that add to the tool belt of police and community communications and reporting ease.
The Alamogordo Police Department is excited to announce the addition of the Lexis Nexis Desk Officer Reporting System (a.k.a. online reporting). This innovative solution will automatically interface information submitted by citizens to our current records management system.
What does this mean for the community? Community members can self-report certain non- emergent incidents directly from their computers or smartphones 24/7.
Incidents such as animal complaints, parking complaints and some misdemeanor crimes can be submitted online without having to wait for a physical response from an officer.
Active crimes and instances in which the suspect is identified and remains on scene will not be accepted. Citizens should continue calling the Department’s non-emergency phone number (575-439-4300) or 911 for emergency calls.
Online reporting has benefited communities across the country by improving officer response times and better allocating valuable officer resources toward high priority incidents. The improvement of response times correlates to better relationships with the community.
Chief Richard Denton stated, “I am excited that the Alamogordo Police Department is able to provide our community with an around the clock service of reporting non-emergent incidents without requiring an officer to be present.” Chief Denton further stated, “I want the community to understand that online reporting will not take the place of an officer, if a community member wants an officer to respond, an officer will respond. Please understand that officer response times are directly related to the severity of the incidents that are being reported.” The Alamogordo Police Department hopes our community will take advantage of this new resource.
In addition to online reporting the Alamogordo Police Department would like to announce a new partnership between LexisNexis and the City of Alamogordo that gives requestors the easy ability to submit requests for 911 call recordings, crash reports, incident reports, photo requests, and video recording requests.
