Candidates Certified for Potential Appointment to District 1 Commissioner Jim Baldwin Vacated Seat

As we roll into December and consider the holidays the political machine of Alamogordo has continued to move forward. The seat vacated by Baldwin is Commission seat 1.

In November Susan Payne was selected as the mayor-elect of Alamogordo and will step into the mayors' role in January. The commissioner of district 3 will be appointed in 2022. 

This seat is replacing Jim Baldwin. The city gives the power to the commission to appoint her replacement. Individuals have to apply, submit a package explaining their, credentials and their goal for the position and then the commission will make a determination of appointment.

On October 12, 2021, Resolution 2021-37 was adopted declaring a vacancy exists on the City Commission for District 1. The following individuals have filed a Declaration of Candidacy and submitted all the required documents to the City Clerk by November 10, 2021 as required.

The following candidates have been certified by the City Clerk as valid candidates for the District 1 vacancy position.

  • Michael Thomas Heisinger
  • Rebecca Marie Miller
  • Nicholas Allan Paul
  • Ronald L. Sanchez Jr
  • Sara Rebecca Weihausen

After being selected to fill the vacancy, the Candidate will take the Oath of Office. Once the oath is administered, the new Commissioner for District 1 will take their seat on the dais and vote on any items on the agenda.
