ALAMOGORDO — The Alamogordo Tigers survived a fourth-quarter comeback and a gutsy two-point attempt to beat the Goddard Rockets 28-27 in overtime Friday night.

Neither team scored in the first quarter. Goddard broke through early in the second when Jose Porraz scored on a 5-yard run, giving the Rockets a 7-0 lead with 10:30 left in the half. Alamogordo answered with a 13-yard touchdown run by Samuel Strong. Russell's extra point tied it 7-7 with 6:58 remaining.

The Tigers then took the lead just before halftime. With 34 seconds left, quarterback Rudy Wolfe found Tristan Bowman for a 44-yard touchdown pass, sending Alamogordo into the locker room up 14-7.

Wolfe extended the lead in the third quarter with a 13-yard touchdown run, and Russell's kick made it 21-7 with 5:07 left in the period. The score held through the end of the third.

Goddard wasn't finished. Isaiah Montoya scored on a 4-yard run to pull the Rockets within 21-14 with 8:46 to play. Then Nate Vazquez connected with Noah Lujan on a 59-yard touchdown pass, and the extra point tied the game 21-21 with 4:33 remaining. Neither team scored again in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

Alamogordo struck first in the extra period on a 1-yard touchdown run by Bowman, and the extra point made it 28-21. Goddard answered with a touchdown of its own. Rather than kick the extra point and play another overtime, the Rockets went for the win. Their two-point pass fell incomplete short of the goal line, sealing the Tigers' victory.
