Tularosa bounces back at home after tournament loss; Alamogordo swept by Roswell
It was a week of ups and downs for area volleyball, as the Tularosa Lady Cats rebounded from a tournament setback to pick up a home win, while the Alamogordo Lady Tigers struggled against a strong Roswell squad.
Tularosa's week began with a disappointment on Saturday at the Magdalena Tournament, where Capitan defeated the Lady Cats in four sets.
The loss dropped Tularosa to 2-6 on the season and sent the Lady Cats home looking to regroup ahead of a Tuesday matchup with Estancia.
Back on their home court Tuesday, the Lady Cats responded, defeating Estancia in four sets, 25-14, 25-15, 20-25, 25-17.
Tularosa controlled the opening two sets, holding Estancia to 14 and 15 points to build a commanding 2-0 lead. Estancia fought back to take the third set 25-20 and keep the match alive, but the Lady Cats regained their footing in the fourth, closing out the match with a 25-17 win.
The victory improves Tularosa to 3-6. The Lady Cats hit the road next, traveling to West Las Vegas on Saturday.
The Alamogordo Lady Tigers had a tough outing against Roswell, falling in straight sets, 25-9, 25-16, 25-18.
Roswell dominated the first set, holding Alamogordo to just nine points. The Lady Tigers showed improvement as the match went on, scoring 16 points in the second set and pushing to 18 in the third, but they were unable to break through and claim a set.
The loss drops Alamogordo to 3-6 on the season. The Lady Tigers are back in action Thursday when they travel to Artesia.
