Mutual Aid Response: Double-Wide Mobile Home Heavily Damaged in Early-Morning Otero County Fire

Early Friday morning, January 31, 2026, firefighters from the Far South Fire Department (FSFD), with mutual aid support from Doña Ana Fire Rescue (DAFR), battled a structure fire that left a double-wide mobile home extensively damaged on Hermosa Drive in Otero County.

Dispatch received the call shortly after 5 a.m., with arriving crews finding heavy fire showing through the roof and active flames visible throughout much of the structure. Firefighters promptly shifted to defensive operations, focusing on containing the blaze and preventing extension to surrounding areas or exposures.

DAFR resources played a key role in supporting the primary FSFD response. Once the fire was knocked down and declared under control, command was returned to the Far South Fire Department for overhaul, scene stabilization, and the initiation of any origin-and-cause investigation.

No injuries were reported, according to initial statements from responding agencies.

Photographs from the scene reveal the severe impact of the fire: the mobile home’s curved metal roof and side panels are heavily charred and partially collapsed, with large sections of the exterior burned away.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no further details have been released regarding occupants, potential displacement, or immediate assistance needs.
