Roswell, New Mexico (WIHINMTX) — A devastating two-vehicle collision in northwest Roswell on Tuesday evening has claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl and left several others hospitalized, including two teenagers with severe injuries.
The Roswell Police Department’s Traffic Division is currently investigating the crash, which occurred around 6:35 p.m. on March 10 near the intersection of North Union Avenue and West 19th Street.
According to initial police reports, a Honda Accord carrying four local teenagers was traveling southbound on North Union Avenue at a “high rate of speed.” Investigators believe the driver—identified as one of two 17-year-old boys in the vehicle—lost control of the car.
The Accord crossed into the path of a northbound GMC Yukon SUV, resulting in a violent, near head-on collision.
The crash involved six individuals, all of whom were transported to medical facilities.
Occupants of the Honda Accord:
• 16-year-old girl: Tragically passed away at a local hospital following the accident.
• Two 17-year-old boys: Both were transferred to an out-of-area hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
• 15-year-old girl: Transferred to another facility for treatment; her injuries are currently believed to be non-life-threatening.
Occupants of the GMC Yukon:
• 56-year-old woman: The driver of the SUV was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.
• 11-year-old girl: A passenger in the SUV; she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released alongside her mother.
The Roswell Police Department has confirmed that the investigation is active and charges are pending as they finalize their reconstruction of the event. Authorities have highlighted the high rate of speed of the southbound vehicle as a primary factor in the loss of control.
No further names have been released at this time pending the notification of extended family and the ongoing nature of the legal investigation.

Chris, thank you for yet another example of great local investigative journalism!
I'll ask around to see if other folks can add more information and evidence to help answer the questions you have raised.

regarding the dispute involving employees at the public owned golf course: authoritarians/conservatives hate unions passionately - they are altogether too independent to fit in with their plans for more complete control. besides, authoritarians need to control patronage to extend their grip.
Absolutely true! If it wasn't for unions, a large portion of democrat politicians would lose a source of income . Thank you for bringing that up!
So glad that overweight lady who trots out a PhD as if it's a driver's license to take over our lives . . . is out the door. Get a real job now? Teaching probably.
