The desert air was crisp and the competition fierce Saturday morning as Alamogordo hosted its annual Cross Country Invitational, drawing teams from across the region to race the local course
The hometown Tigers delivered a powerful performance, with the Alamogordo girls team seizing first place overall and the boys team earning a strong second-place finish. Cloudcroft’s boys team also made their mark, finishing fourth in a competitive field.
Alamogordo Girls Dominate the Podium
Led by sophomore standout Addyson Gonzalez, who clocked a swift 22:14.43 to finish second overall, the Lady Tigers packed the top ten with precision and grit. Nizhoni Castillo (3rd, 22:59.41) and Kaitlynn Broncheau (5th, 23:27.90) added crucial points, while Aurora Van Beusichem (8th), Alex Simmons (10th), and Jocelynn Pittman (13th) rounded out a deep and disciplined squad
Their collective effort secured the team title and set the tone for next week’s District 3-5A showdown.
Alamogordo Boys Push to Second
Senior Matthew Snyder led the charge for the Tiger boys, finishing 4th with a blistering 17:13.94. Teammates Austin Stauffacher (8th), Dakota Suggs (9th), Aaron Borrego (10th), Zachary Swayzee (12th), and Rylan Maroon (16th) kept the team tightly grouped, earning Alamogordo second place overall. Their performance signals a strong bid for the district title when they host the 3-5A meet this Friday.
Cloudcroft Boys Hold Their Own
Despite racing against larger schools, Cloudcroft’s boys team showed resilience and heart, finishing fourth overall. Fin Abel led the Bears with a 21st-place finish (19:49.83), followed by Gael Marte (23rd), Noah Saffle (29th), Cailan Marte (36th), Tyler Meszler (41st), and Raine Langford (44th)
Their effort sets the stage for next week’s District 3/4 A-2A meet at the Inn of the Mountain Gods, hosted by Mescalero Apache.
Cloudcroft Girls Gain Experience
The Cloudcroft girls team, though young, gained valuable race experience. Bella Johnson (23rd), Paula Finch (26th), and Brisa Johnson (27th) showed determination on the challenging course, building momentum for future meets.
As the season turns toward championship races, both Alamogordo and Cloudcroft athletes are poised to make their mark. With district meets looming, the spirit of competition and community pride runs strong through the mountain trails and desert flats alike.
