Royal Angels, a local 501(c)(3) nonprofit, will host its first Royal Picnic this Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at the Toy Train Depot in Alameda Park.
The free community event is designed to celebrate individuals with special abilities and bring families together for an afternoon of inclusion and joy.
Billed as “a day of joy, connection & celebration for all,” the picnic will feature a picnic lunch and treats, music and games, and a ride on the depot’s miniature train. Organizers say the event is meant to create lasting memories while welcoming people of every age and ability.

“Royal Angels’ mission is to celebrate, empower, and inspire individuals of all ages and all abilities by creating an inclusive, loving community where everyone is seen, valued, and given the opportunity to shine,” the organization states. Through pageants, events, and meaningful connections, the group aims to build confidence and remind every participant that they are created with purpose, dignity, and worth.
The nonprofit emphasizes that its programming is intentionally non-competitive. “We don’t focus on winning — we focus on celebrating you,” the organization says, noting that its events are built to provide a safe, welcoming space where friendships and confidence can grow.
Royal Angels was founded by Grace Nagamine, who serves as president, alongside Co-Director Porsha Berry and Treasurer Merry Flores. The organization says its work is inspired by Melanie Mona Ridley, whose heart and passion for uplifting others continue to shape its mission.
As a registered 501(c)(3), Royal Angels relies on donations, sponsorships, and volunteers to sustain its programming, with all contributions going toward tax-deductible support of its inclusion-focused events. Those interested in getting involved can volunteer, donate, sponsor, or simply attend Saturday’s picnic to show their support.
Organizers say all ages and all abilities are welcome at the Royal Picnic

Sunny, with a high of 101 and low of 73 degrees. Sunny for the morning, clear for the afternoon and evening,
the smartest maintenance expenditures are spent looking to the future, not repairing the past. kudos for the forward thinking/planning, hope it bears fruit.
Hmm. Elected city officials making comments “as a private citizen”. A trend that started with former city officials here and is reminiscent of lawsuits going on in Los Angeles right now.
just another law and order political personality who believes they should be exempt for those laws...
Remember when they all ran from sniper fire. At this point, what does it matter.
While Mr. Stockwell may hit the ground running, why is the public not asking how complicit he was in the tainted hiring process? He is a past city manager; he knows about hiring protocols. Why didn't he ask the commission to be transparent?
This gets more entertaining by the day. Something about glass sunroofs and throwing stones. Lol
just another standard-issue politician, who will use every loophole, and advantage their office provides for their own interests, and grandstand against someone else doing the exact same thing - a pox on them all.
“Speaking as a private citizen”. Famous last words before someone using their position to divulge personal business. Karma is cool.
the insiders have accomplished a solid 4 seat majority - this will not be the last time they will use it.
