The Alamogordo Police Department has now made a second arrest in the murder of 16 year old Augustine Moreno which occurred in 2022.
On Monday, December 23, 2024, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Detectives with the Alamogordo Police Department along with Special Agents with the 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and Agents with White Mountain Drug Task Force served an arrest warrant at a residence in the 600 Block of South Florida.
25-year-old Alejandro Stewart of Alamogordo was apprehended on an arrest warrant for charges of Murder in the 1st degree, Tampering with Evidence, Assault with Intent to Commit a Violent Felony and an additional arrest warrant for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Mr. Stewart was processed and booked into the Otero County Detention Center awaiting his court appearance.
Mr. Stewarts charges stem from an ongoing homicide investigation which occurred on July 2, 2022, near the intersection of College Avenue and Dewey Lane where a 16-year-old male, Augustine Moreno, was shot and discovered deceased by residents in the area.
The 12th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit, comprised of investigators from the Alamogordo Police Department, Otero County Sheriff’s Office, 12th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Ruidoso Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, was activated and assumed the investigation.
This is the second arrest in this investigation. 23-year-old Dominique Thomas of Alamogordo was arrested in December of 2022 for his role in the murder. Mr. Thomas has been charged with Accessory to Commit Murder, Tampering with Evidence, and Accessory to Commit Assault w/Intent to Commit a Violent Felony. He remains incarcerated on a no bond hold awaiting trial.
