More Than 150 Thrive Volunteers to Fan Out Across Otero County for Annual Day of Caring, Sept 18, 2026

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — Thrive in Southern New Mexico will kick off its annual Day of Caring on Friday, Sept. 18, sending more than 150 volunteers to work on over 40 homes throughout Alamogordo and Otero County.

The kickoff begins at 7:30 a.m. in the 1st National Bank parking lot, where volunteers will gather before heading out to their assigned job sites across the community.

The Day of Caring is a decades-long tradition in Otero County. Each year, volunteers travel to pre-determined sites to complete home repairs, yard work, cleaning, and other tasks for residents and nonprofit agencies who are unable to do the work themselves or lack the resources to have it done. Volunteers have historically come from Holloman Air Force Base as well as local businesses, civic organizations, and neighborhood groups.

"This is a wonderful community effort," organizers said, noting that the event brings together neighbors from every corner of the county for a single morning of service that leaves a lasting impact on dozens of households.

Thrive in Southern New Mexico, headquartered at 1601 E. 10th St. in Alamogordo, does not provide direct services itself. Instead, the organization supports local nonprofits through fundraising, collaboration, and capacity building, bringing diverse people and resources together to address the community's most urgent needs.
