Arthur Leder Arrested on Felony Child Abuse Charges After Infant Found Unresponsive - Alamogordo Town News

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. – A local father faces serious felony charges after Alamogordo police say he caused severe injuries to his six-month-old child, the latest in a troubling string of child abuse cases reported across Otero County and New Mexico in recent months.

On March 15, 2026, at approximately 8:22 p.m., officers with the Alamogordo Police Department responded to a residence in the 2200 block of Lawrence Boulevard (Oasis Trailer Park area) after the child’s parents reported an unresponsive infant.

Officers, assisted by a deputy from the Otero County Sheriff’s Office, immediately performed life-saving measures at the scene. The infant was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to a regional medical facility for advanced care. The child remains in critical but stable condition after weeks of treatment.

Detectives from the Alamogordo Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division assumed the case following the initial medical evaluation, which revealed injuries consistent with abuse, including head trauma. According to reports, the 26-year-old father admitted to shaking the baby while the child was in a bouncer.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence and conducted multiple interviews. As a result, an arrest warrant was issued for Arthur Leder, 26, of Alamogordo. He was taken into custody on April 10, 2026, and charged with one count of Abuse of a Child Resulting in Great Bodily Harm, a first-degree felony.

Leder was booked into the Otero County Detention Center, where he is being held pending his initial court appearance.

This incident comes amid a pattern of concerning child abuse cases in the region. In recent months, Alamogordo and Otero County authorities have handled multiple investigations involving the sexual exploitation of minors and physical abuse, including high-profile convictions resulting in decades-long prison sentences for local residents. Statewide, child welfare concerns have drawn scrutiny, with ongoing discussions about systemic protections for vulnerable children.

The Alamogordo Police Department continues to investigate. Additional charges or details may be released as the case proceeds.
