On Thursday, February 5, 2026, 19-year-old Jorge Negrete of Alamogordo was arrested pursuant to a Magistrate Court warrant. The additional charges against him include:
• Conspiracy to Commit Murder or, in the alternative, Aggravated Battery (Deadly Weapon) (Firearm Enhancement)
• Attempted Murder or, in the alternative, Aggravated Battery (Firearm Enhancement)
• Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor (as noted in related coverage)
Furthermore, on Friday, February 6, 2026, a 15-year-old male was arrested on a Children’s Court District warrant for:

• Conspiracy to Commit Attempted Murder or, in the alternative, Conspiracy to Commit Aggravated Battery (Deadly Weapon) (Firearm Enhancement)
The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, near the Town & Country Trailer Park. A 17-year-old driver and a 20-year-old passenger were in a vehicle when unknown individuals fired multiple rounds into it, striking the driver. The injured teen attempted to drive to Christus Health Hospital but crashed at the intersection of 10th Street and Cuba Avenue after colliding with another vehicle. A good Samaritan transported him to the hospital, where he received treatment and was later listed in stable condition.
The investigation identified multiple suspects, leading to earlier arrests of two underage individuals (ages 14 and 15) on related charges. Negrete’s arrest marks a significant development in the case, which involves serious firearm-related offenses and concerns about youth involvement in violent crime.
APD’s Criminal Investigations Division continues to actively investigate and urges anyone with additional information to contact them.
This update underscores APD’s commitment to thorough investigations and holding accountable those involved in violent incidents to enhance community safety.
