The Alamogordo Tigers may have come up short in Friday night’s district showdown against Carlsbad, but the week began with a bright spot as senior standout Jessie Guilez was named Tiger Athlete of the Week. The honor, sponsored by The Winners’ Circle and Tularosa Basin Telephone Company/Tularosa Communications, Inc., recognized Guilez for his leadership, consistency, and impact on both sides of the ball throughout the season.
Guilez received the accolade prior to Friday’s game, a testament to his work ethic and presence on the field. Known for his explosive speed and defensive tenacity, Guilez has been a key contributor to the Tigers’ campaign and a steadying force in the locker room.
Friday’s game against Carlsbad was a hard-fought battle, with Alamogordo falling 30-25 in a contest that saw momentum swing multiple times. The Tigers now sit at 4-4 overall and 1-3 in district play, with a critical matchup looming this Thursday as they host undefeated Las Cruces. The Bulldogs, currently ranked No. 1 in the state, will be a formidable test for an Alamogordo squad still fighting for playoff positioning.
Elsewhere in the region, the Tularosa Wildcats dropped a close 13-6 contest to Jal, falling to 2-5 on the season and 0-1 in district play. The Wildcats will look to regroup as they travel to Loving next Friday.
In 8-man football, the Cloudcroft Bears were overpowered by Questa, falling 68-14. The Bears are now 1-6 overall and 0-3 in district, and will face Fort Sumner/House on the road this coming Friday.
Across the state:
Week 8 of New Mexico high school football brought several shakeups in the rankings. Las Cruces maintained its top spot with a dominant win over Clovis, while Cleveland and Volcano Vista continued to impress with decisive victories. La Cueva surged back into the top five after a high-scoring win over Los Lunas, and Hobbs made a statement by upsetting Centennial in a shootout.
As the regular season winds down, every game carries added weight. For Alamogordo, Thursday’s matchup against Las Cruces is more than just a district game—it’s a chance to prove they belong among the state’s elite. And for Jessie Guilez, the recognition as Tiger Athlete of the Week is a well-earned milestone in a season defined by heart, hustle, and leadership.

Yep, Cota is not ready for a public office let alone a Mayor.
Any chance Anthony Lucero would interview Ted Morgan?
There’s a thing called reactive abuse. It can be used to bring frivolous, costly lawsuits (aka lawfare). Please educate yourself so you do not fall for harassment baiting. There are some very interesting videos on Youtube about it.
New sidewalks for some neighborhoods. What about the Walker area that is also in her district. Seeing is believing, Walker area has always been ignored.
Have you ever messaged her about it, or are you just complaining to complain? Her actions speak louder than all the other commissioners combined.
She championed and approved $12 million dollars worth of Water system upgrades for walker road and yet you choose to ignore that. It is in the design phase with contract bidding to be announed in early 2026 with work to begin in later spring. That is the largest capital investment in Walker Road in over 50 years.
Did anyone see what Senator Charles Grassley is saying about AI yesterday. What does that have to do with this? It might explain why legal systems in many cities are such a mess.
But also: Why is no one talking about the DISMAL low income housing in Alamogordo, and the need to investigate what is going on in those places, and the lack of housing for homeless???????????

"I cannot accept your canon that we are to judge Pope and King unlike other men, with a favorable presumption that they do no wrong. If there is any presumption, it is the other way against holders of power...power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." ~ Lord Acton
It is interesting as you delve into the family, business and indeed religious connections that are intertwined in city politics. Some folks have a whole lit of fleas scratching the dog.
Absolutely true lots of fleas itching the dog!!
I somehow got logged out without doing so since last time I was here. I wanted to view the Flickinger meeting on Facebook but cannot because my account was taken down. I do not attend these public events because of all the attempts to mess with my life already.
