Timberton, New Mexico — The Timberton Volunteer Fire Department will host a 25th Anniversary Commemoration of September 11, 2001, on Wednesday, September 11, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the Timberton Fire Station, 33 Merlin Drive at the flag pole.
The solemn event will feature a commemorative ceremony honoring the 2,977 lives lost in the terrorist attacks, followed by a traditional burning of retired flags—a respectful practice that reflects the enduring commitment of first responders to remember those lost.
“This is about never forgetting those who made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Joan Eerkes, the event’s organizer.
Program Details
The ceremony will conclude with a short parade returning to the fire station, where attendees are invited to gather for a casual meal of hamburgers and hot dogs, sponsored by Friends of the Timberton Volunteer Fire Department.
All donations collected at the event will benefit the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which provides mortgage-free homes to families of fallen first responders and adaptive housing for military veterans. The organization directly supports those who gave their lives or were permanently changed by their service.
How to Participate and Support
The public is welcome to join the parade and dinner. Those wishing to contribute can scan a QR code at the event or visit T2T.org to donate. The QR code directs donations through the Tunnel to Towers site while providing full credit to the Timberton Volunteer Fire Department’s fundraising efforts.
