Alamogordo N.M.- With the City Commission’s approval of the FY27 Budget at the end of July, Alamogordo is moving full speed ahead on an ambitious slate of infrastructure improvements. The city will now begin advertising for competitive bids on several “shovel-ready” projects that have been completely designed and are ready for construction.
Downtown and Central Areas: Post Office District Waterline and Road Rehabilitation
Residents and business owners in the area around the Post Office will soon see significant infrastructure upgrades. The planned project encompasses waterline replacement and road rehabilitation on streets including Hawaii, Alaska, Puerto Rico, and Dewey Lane. Competitive bidding for this project is scheduled for September, with construction expected to follow shortly after contract award.
Oregon Avenue Phase 2
Continuing the city’s commitment to upgrading critical water infrastructure, Phase 2 of the Oregon Avenue project will address waterline replacement and roadway rehabilitation south from 10th Street. Like the Post Office district project, this work will be advertised for competitive bids in September.
Recreation: The Alamogordo Natatorium
One of the city’s most anticipated projects is right on track. The new Natatorium will head to bid advertising in September, with contract awards expected in December 2026. Construction is projected to begin in January 2027, bringing the community closer to enjoying this important recreational facility.
Water Infrastructure Beyond City Center
Pivot Transmission Line Replacement Project
The Pivot Transmission Line Replacement represents an innovative reclaimed water distribution project that will serve the city’s long-term sustainability goals. However, this project requires coordination with federal authorities. The city is currently awaiting Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approval, as the project traverses property belonging to the Alamogordo–White Sands Regional Airport. Once approval is received, the project will move forward.
Granada Hills District
The Granada Hills area will benefit from state-financed waterline replacement and road rehabilitation. This project is scheduled to be advertised for competitive bids before the end of 2026.
Walker and Airport Road Neighborhoods
Addressing aging waterline infrastructure along US Highway 70, the city is preparing plans for replacement work that will service the Walker and Airport Road neighborhoods. Competitive bids for this project are expected to be advertised between November and December 2026.
Looking Ahead
These capital projects represent a significant investment in Alamogordo’s future—upgrading aging water systems, improving roadways, and enhancing recreation amenities for residents and visitors alike. The city remains committed to transparent project management and community communication throughout each phase of construction.
Residents with questions about any of these projects are encouraged to contact the Office of the City Manager, Office of the Mayor, or the City’s Public Works Department. Project bidding can be found at https://procurement.opengov.com/portal/alamogordonm
