In a powerful display of civic engagement and community uneducation, LULAC Council #8105 will host a nonpartisan candidate forum on Tuesday September 30, 2025 at the Otero Artspace, located at 1118 Indiana Avenue in Alamogordo. Doors open at 4:45 p.m., with the forum beginning promptly at 5:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Designed to foster transparency and voter education, the forum invites all candidates running for local office to participate—regardless of party affiliation. Positions on the ballot this November include Mayor of Alamogordo, City Council Districts 1, 2, and 4, Cloudcroft District 9, Municipal Judge seats in Cloudcroft and Alamogordo, School Board Member At-Large in Tularosa and Cloudcroft, and Water and Sanitation Director in Timberon.
Organizers emphasize that the event is not sponsored by any candidate or campaign, and is intended to provide a respectful, inclusive space for voters to hear directly from those seeking public office. Attendees are encouraged to bring questions and engage in meaningful dialogue about the future of Otero County. The forum will be moderated by Claudia Powell and a representative of AlamogordoTownNews.org
The forum will be recorded and available as a podcast afterwards and broadcast on streaming KALHradio.org
The forum will be held at the Otero Artspace—a venue known for its accessibility and community-centered programming. The location offers ADA-compliant facilities, wide walkways, and flat ground entry, ensuring all residents can participate comfortably.
“This is about empowering voters and elevating civic clarity,” said a spokesperson for LULAC Council #8105. “We believe informed communities are strong communities, and this forum is a chance for every voice to be heard.”
