Gubernatorial Candidate and former Mayor Ken Miyagishima Candidate for Governor of New Mexico for 2026 sends letter to President Trump concerning migrant round ups on farms.

"The reason for my writing this letter is because no one from our Congressional delegation or the Governor's office is doing anything to protect our Farmers."

"I will work tirelessly to help our residents keep the prices of their everyday staples from increasing" This is just one example of how we can try to help." Miyagishima told the press per a news release.

The letter reads...

President Donald J. Trump
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500
July 7, 2025

Dear Mr. President:
I was heartened by your July 3a remarks in lowa referencing the number of immigrants working on American farms. Moreover, I wholeheartedly agree with your admonition to Secretary Noem that we
m u s t avoid removing workers from our farms.

As you said, "We don't want to hurt people that aren't criminals." As you know, lowa is not the only state with a significant number of migrant farm workers.

Here in New Mexico, we are a major producer of beef cattle, dairy cows, Chile peppers, pecans, hay, cotton, onions, grapes, pistachios and melons.

Our farmers rely heavily on the H-2A visa program for labor as vegetables that can only be picked by human hands that ripen in the fields. Recent immigration raids on a thriving dairy farm in New Mexico have many of our farmers concerned about U.S. policy when it comes to farm workers.
I know of no one who opposes the deportation of undocumented immigrants who have committed serious crimes.

However, I hope those you have appointed to oversee the Department of Homeland
Security will abide your intentions to avoid indiscriminate raids on family farms that depend on migrant workers.
Going forward, perhaps your administration can put in writing a policy consistent with what you said in lowa

Our farmers are already suffering from the loss of foreign markets. In addition, uncertainty about their labor force only adds to their woes.

Former Las Cruces mayor Ken Miyagishima formally announced a run for New Mexico governor in 2026. Miyagishima joins a crowded field vying to replace two-term Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham. Miyagishima, a Democrat, is currently set to face former Interior Secretary and New Mexico congresswoman Deb Haaland and current Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman in a primary election next summer.
