NMSP officers located and arrested a suspect wanted for violent crimes stemming from an incident earlier this month.
On May 18, 2025, the Tucumcari Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for Julian Martinez, a resident of Tucumcari, NM. Martinez was wanted on multiple felony charges stemming from a violent incident that occurred on the night of May 18, including:
Attempt to Commit a Violent Felony (Attempted Murder)
Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon
Aggravated Battery Against a Household Member (Strangulation or Suffocation)
With the assistance of the New Mexico State Police (NMSP), the NMSP Criminal Investigations Bureau Zone 4, and the Quay County Sheriff’s Office, a coordinated effort was launched to locate and apprehend Martinez.
Investigators learned Martinez had fled to Albuquerque and was staying at an apartment complex with his brother.
On May 21, 2025, with the help of the New Mexico Corrections Department Security Threat Intelligence Unit (STIU), Martinez was positively identified at the apartment complex. NMSP Tactical Team executed a search warrant and safely apprehended Martinez without incident.
Martinez was booked into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center and is pending extradition to Quay County, NM. For questions regarding charges, please contact the Tucumcari Police Department.
This successful operation is a strong example of how law enforcement agencies across New Mexico work together to bring violent offenders to justice and keep our communities safe.
