Alamogordo, NM – The Alamogordo Tigers track and field teams delivered a dominant performance Friday and Saturday, April 24-25, 2026, at the annual Bob Sepulveda Invitational held at Tiger Stadium. The girls’ team captured 1st place overall, while the boys’ squad secured a strong 2nd-place finish in a competitive field of top programs from across southern New Mexico.
The Bob Sepulveda Invitational is named in honor of legendary Alamogordo High School Coach Robert “Bob” Sepulveda, a living icon of New Mexico athletics. Coach Sepulveda began his tenure as head track and field coach in the early 60s and went on to become the winningest boys’ track coach in Alamogordo High School history, leading the Tigers to 19 district championships, five state titles (including four consecutive in the 1990s), one second-place state finish, and five third-place finishes. His teams also captured 170 invitational championships and produced 102 individual state gold medalists. The Tiger Stadium track and field facility bears his name in recognition of his decades of dedication to student-athletes in track, football, and cross country.
At age 90, Coach Sepulveda once again made a special appearance to support the event along with his son 2 time Olympic Trials Qualifyer Rene Sepulveda. TheTiger Track and Field bears Coach Bob Sepulveda's name and his wife who died in 1989 of cancer was named posthumously to the New Mexico Coach's Hall of Fame last year. Yesterday Rene and Coach Sepulveda cheered on the current generation of Tigers and continuing a tradition of presence at the meet he helped inspire.
