The Alamogordo Police Department (APD) announced today the successful arrest of Jevon Dewitt Hairston, who was wanted on an active multi-count federal warrant for child exploitation charges.

Hairston had been the subject of a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) alert. Authorities considered him a flight risk after he previously fled the United States to Taiwan following the filing of New Mexico charges. He was released at that time but reentered the United States on April 14, 2026.

APD officers used the department’s license plate reading technology to confirm Hairston’s return to the Alamogordo area. Officers located and took him into custody without incident. Following the arrest, Hairston was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for transport to a federal facility.

Background on Prior Case

This arrest follows Hairston’s previous apprehension in November 2025. In that case, APD’s Criminal Investigations Division received information from the Santa Fe Police Department. Detectives executed search warrants and conducted digital forensic examinations, recovering over 1,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on devices linked to Hairston.

He faced state charges in Otero County Magistrate Court and was booked into the Otero County Detention Center in November 2025.

Authorities have not released additional details on the specific federal charges at this time. The case remains under federal investigation.

The Alamogordo Police Department continues to emphasize community safety and the use of technology in locating fugitives. Anyone with information related to this or similar cases is encouraged to contact APD or HSI.
