The New York Avenue sewer and waterline replacement project is moving into its final phase on the 900 Block. With that conclusion the next phase of the MainStreet makeover is to begin the week of February 10th, 2025. As work concludes on the water and sewer systems of the 900 Block of New York Avenue and the systems tie over occurs, median and sidewalk improvements phase now begins with work at 10th and New York Avenue.
Alamogordo City Senior Project Manager, Justen Boyle provides the following update…
“Please be advised that, starting Monday, February 10, 2025, as the water sewer replacement program (WSRP) nears completion on the 900 block of New York Avenue, the surface and streetscape MainStreet Makeover (Great Blocks) will begin. During the construction of the new median on 10th Street between White Sands Boulevard and Delaware Avenue, there will be no crosswalk or crossing for pedestrians on 10th Street near New York Avenue. The contractor Crosstown Construction was awarded $2.9 million for the MainStreet Makeover.
Between White Sands Boulevard and Delaware Avenue, there will be no parking on 10th Street on the north or south sides, for westbound or eastbound traffic. Temporary signage will be installed advising drivers to avoid parking on 10th Street between White Sands Boulevard and Delaware Avenue. Please be advised that parked vehicles will be towed. The stop signs in this area will be covered, and traffic will continue to flow.
Once the median is constructed, Great Blocks will progress south on New York Avenue toward 9th Street. The northbound one-way on New York Avenue between 10th Street and 12th Street will go into effect as soon as the median is completed, and parking will become available once again. The median is estimated to be completed in mid to late March 2025.
As this project progresses, we will continue to notify our citizens of any updates, changes, and corrections, as deemed necessary.”
Drivers in Alamogordo are asked to slow down and use extreme caution when driving through and proceeding through this work zone. It is essential for the safety of the construction teams and multiple contractors to drive, walk, bike with awareness and diligence. Please drive safely and continue to support those New York Avenue businesses that are continuing to operate during this makeover.
