Desert Trails Vendor Village Grand Opening Draws Crowds and Community Leaders in Alamogordo - AlamogordoTownNews.org

Alamogordo, NM – March 21, 2026 – The highly anticipated Desert Trails Vendor Village officially opened its gates today at 2113 to 2117 Eddy Drive, off Canal Road, transforming the outdoor space into a bustling community hub for local entrepreneurs, families, and pet owners.

Owners Robin Owen and John Bone welcomed more than 40 small business owners, artisans, craftspeople, and independent food vendors—including several food trucks—to the vibrant, primarily outdoor venue.

The grand opening was attended by Alamogordo City Mayor Sharon McDonald and City Commissioner Baxter Patillo, who visited to express support for the new small business initiative and its positive impact on Alamogordo’s local economy in supporting small business entrepreneurs, artists and craftspeople.

Families flocked to the free-admission event, enjoying a dedicated secure kids’ play area complete with a bouncy house and other inflatables for safe, energetic fun. The pet-friendly atmosphere supports visitors bringing leashed dogs, secured animals, adding to the welcoming, community-oriented vibe. Additional highlights included vendor raffle giveaways, a Paws & Peppers Pet Costume Contest, a Hot Chili Showdown, and delicious eats from permanent and rotating vendors and a transformer securing the grounds.

Live entertainment kept the energy high, with three different local bands performing from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., complemented by plans for live music or DJs every Saturday moving forward. The village will operate Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering a consistent spot for shopping artisan goods, grabbing food, and enjoying performances.

Looking ahead, a car show is set for next weekend (Saturday, March 28) to attract classic car fans and more visitors. Future plans include adding a petting zoo to further enhance the family and animal-friendly appeal.

Small business owner Cindy Nowaczck, owner of Our Little Country Store on 12th Street,  was onsite showing her support. She said several of the Christmas holiday vendors that were a part of the seasonal 12th Street Pop Up Emporium at her location were a part of this venture. She said, "us small business owners have to stick together and encourage one another, I wish each featured entrepreneur great success."

Desert Trails Vendor Village aims to be more than a typical market—it’s designed as a ongoing gathering place that supports local dreams and creates memorable experiences in Alamogordo.
