Gerardo Fierro appointed as Executive Director of New Mexico Border Authority
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has named Gerardo Fierro as the executive director of the New Mexico Border Authority executive director. Fierro is a transportation analyst, logistics expert, and former business owner.
Fierro joined the agency after serving as a transportation analyst with the El Paso Metropolitan Planning Organization where he worked on infrastructure and global trade development. He has private-sector management experience with Premier Trucking in Hidalgo, TX, and served as a logistics expert with El Mesteno Cattle Company in Santa Teresa. Fierro holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and international business from New Mexico State University and is fluent in English and Spanish.
The Santa Teresa-based New Mexico Border Authority (NMBA) is an executive branch agency that represents the state in the development of the international ports of entry in Santa Teresa, Antelope Wells, and Columbus, NM, as well as serving as the governor’s adviser and point of contact for those interested in cross-border trade.
NMBA is overseen by an independent board appointed by the governor and is attached to the New Mexico Economic Development Department for administrative support.
“Gov. Lujan Grisham is focused on building New Mexico’s international border into a strategic asset for manufacturing and warehousing,” New Mexico Economic Development Cabinet Secretary-Designate Rob Black said. “Gerardo Fierro brings deep, on-the-ground experience with cross-border transportation, infrastructure, and trade and will be a great resource to help the border region reach its’ full economic potential for the people of New Mexico.”
“We look forward to Gerardo’s leadership as New Mexico moves forward with infrastructure improvements that will boost global trade and improve transportation efficiencies, reducing the cost of goods to both businesses and consumers,” New Mexico Border Authority Chair Joseph De La Rosa added.
“New Mexico’s international border is set to bring unprecedented opportunities to the state through trade, transportation, and economic development,” Fierro said. “My experience in logistics, cross-border projects, and fostering relationships with governments in both the U.S. and Mexico will help the state as we move to diversify our economy by improving cross-border relationships and growing global trade that will create jobs.”

So is this the man we need to contact about border agents harassing licensed cannabis distributers in New Mexico for transporting cannabis to dispensaries? Or state agents assuring quality of product at licensed dispensaries without the fear of being detained for doing what our state (New Mexico) has deemed legal???
