Weather Alert - A Heat Advisory has been issued for June 19 at 10:03PM MDT until June 24 at 12:00AM MDT by the National Weather Service El Paso.

A HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM WEDNESDAY TO AT LEAST MIDNIGHT MDT FRIDAY NIGHT WHAT - Dangerously hot conditions expected by mid week and lasting through the weekend and into next week. High temperatures will range from 101 to 105 degrees each afternoon, if not warmer. Morning low temperatures won`t provide much relief from the heat as they will stay in the middle to upper 70s. WHERE - Southern Dona Ana County/Mesilla Valley and Southern Tularosa Basin to include Otero County, New MexicoWHEN - From 3 AM Wednesday to at least midnight MDT Friday night. * IMPACTS...Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. ADDITIONAL DETAILS - This advisory will likely be extended through at least next weekend and into the following week with temperatures expected to continue to increase through the work week and into next weekend.The National Weather Service issues a number of warnings and advisories during the summer heat to include…Excessive Heat WarningAn Excessive Heat Warning is issued when the heat index value is expected to reach or exceed 110 degrees (east of the Blue Ridge) or 105 degrees (west of the Blue Ridge) within the next 12 to 24 hours. An Excessive Heat Warning may be issued for lower criteria if it is early in the season or during a multi-day heat wave.

Heat AdvisoryA Heat Advisory is issued when the heat index value is expected to reach 105 to 109 degrees (east of the Blue Ridge) or 100 to 104 degrees (west of the Blue Ridge) within the next 12 to 24 hours. A Heat Advisory may be issued for lower criteria if it is early in the season or during a multi-day heat wave.

Fire Weather WatchA Fire Weather Watch is issued to alert fire officials and firefighters of potentially dangerous fire weather conditions within the next 24 to 36 hours. They are issued when the following three criteria are met:1) Surface relative humidity (RH) less than 30 % for VA and MD; RH less than or equal to 25% for WV AND2) Sustained surface wind of 20 MPH or greater AND3) 10-hour fuel moisture less than 8% for VA; less than or equal to 8% for MD and WV
