One Person Shot a Via Suicide at Holloman Air Force Base Shopette; Base Placed on Lockdown

 Alamogordo, NM – March 17, 2026 – One person is confirmed shot via a suicide attempt on Tuesday March 17th in an apparent active shooter suicide incident at the Shopette (base exchange convenience store) on Holloman Air Force Base, according to multiple eyewitness and social media reports. The base was immediately placed on lockdown while emergency responders, including paramedics and a Native Air medevac helicopter, were brought onto the installation.

There were rumors of second victim but official channels have not confirmed anyone else hurt. No information has been confirmed about the suspected suicide attempt nor a possible motive nor reason.

The incident was first reported on social media early this afternoon, with users posting photos and video of the medevac helicopter operating on base. It is confirmed that an alleged active shooter situation that triggered the lockdown and a suicide attempt occured. 

At this time, the 49th Wing Public Affairs Office at Holloman Air Force Base and local law enforcement have not issued an official statement at large other than to state that "an incident has occurred and a suicide attempt". Otero County Sheriff’s Office and Alamogordo Police Department have also not confirmed involvement.

Base personnel and the surrounding community are urged to monitor official channels, including the Holloman AFB website and social media accounts, for real-time updates and all-clear notifications. The base remains in lockdown status as of the latest reports.
