Alamogordo Schools Welcomes Back Two Incredible Staff into Leadership Roles. 

Alamogordo Public Schools announced it is thrilled to welcome back two amazing women into leadership roles within the system.

Dr. Ernestine Baca has rejoined the Alamogordo Public School team as the new Assistant Principal at Chaparral Middle School and Mary Irene Brabson is the new Principal at Sierra Elementary School.

Per Alamogordo Public Schools; “We are excited to have them return after some time away. They will certainly be strong additions to the leadership team and equally strong advocates for students.”

Dr. Baca has worked in education for 37 years (27 yrs. at NMSU-Alamogordo /10 yrs. with APS). She is a native of Alamogordo with solid ties to this community being born and raised here, and a graduate of Alamogordo High School. She has a strong love for the educational system, this community, and the students the system serves. She has worked with a variety of students from junior & senior high levels, adults, and senior citizens. She has held a variety of positions in the Alamogordo School System such as PE Teacher, assistant girls/boys track coach at Alamogordo High School working under the guidance of Coach Marilyn Sepulveda, and then under the supervision of Coach Bob Sepulveda. She also served as head volleyball coach after the departure of Debbie Scott.

At New Mexico State University Alamogordo Dr. Baca had the pleasure of holding the following positions; PE teacher, Special Events Coordinator, and Health Fair Coordinator. Dr. Baca shared, “Ihave had the best jobs in the world working with students, that is why I made the decision to return to my passion of working with students in a community I love.”

Mary Irene Brabson Rejoins Alamogordo Public Schools



Mary Irene Brabson has a bachelors in Special Education and a Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership. She has been in education for 18 years starting as a teacher for preschool students with developmental disabilities in Deming Public Schools (DPS). She moved to Cloudcroft in 2013, became an Elementary Special Education teacher from PreK to 5th grade, and then became an IEP Specialist for Alamogordo Public Schools. She returned to Deming Public Schools as a Special Education Teacher while completing her Masters in Educational Leadership and taking the Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) position for the DPS Preschool before rejoining the APS team this semester.

Brabson shared, “I enjoy the outdoors with family and friends. I am always learning and love helping students become successful.”
