In Loving Memory of Joseph “Jody” Mancillas

Joseph “Jody” Mancillas, age 55, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and deeply cherished memories with everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

One of Jody's greatest accomplishments was his dedicated career working at The Lodge at Cloudcroft for 35 years. It was truly his pride and joy, a place where he built lasting connections and left an undeniable impact through his decades of hard work and commitment.

Jody was a devoted son, brother, and friend who saw the world through a lens of appreciation and joy. In his younger years, he was happiest out on the court, playing basketball alongside his good friends. He loved bowling with his friends; he always brought a spirited energy to the lanes and thoroughly enjoyed the fun of a friendly competition. His love for local athletics continued throughout his life, and he always thoroughly enjoyed playing in local golf scrambles as well as dedicating his time line judging at high school volleyball tournaments.

Jody thoroughly enjoyed his extensive collection of music and movies, and he spent countless hours sharing his talent for baking, creating delicious desserts for both the staff and guests at The Lodge as well as for his beloved family and friends. He also held a deep, lifelong love for trains, and one of his favorite simple pleasures was listening to the train pass by.

Above all, Jody spent many hours on his photography, which was truly the biggest part of his life outside of work. He spent his happiest days hiking through nature, finding hidden beauty in everything around him and capturing it to share with the world. He also enjoyed memorable nights playing cards with the Turner family. Even during his illness, Jody brought people together, sharing lots of laughter, and he absolutely loved playing Farkle.

Known for his generous heart, he brought steady comfort and joy to those around him. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his memory will live on forever in the hearts of those he loved so dearly.

He is survived by his beloved mother, Sherry Crosson (husband Tim), and his brother, Jonathan Mancillas, along with a large, loving family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will carry his strength and laughter forward. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph L. Mancillas; his grandparents, Lucas and Angelita Mancillas; and his grandmother, Ruth A. Williams.

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Jody's life and journey home. Services will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Sacred Heart Mission Catholic Church (205 James Canyon Hwy).

The schedule of services will proceed as follows:
• 10:30 AM | The Holy Rosary
• 11:00 AM | Mass of Christian Burial
• 12:20 PM | Funeral Procession to James Canyon Cemetery for the Committal and Burial Service
• 2:05 PM | Celebration of Life Reception at The Pavilion at The Lodge Resort & Spa (199 Curlew)
