Maria “Pola” Amaya, born July 23, 1935, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. She was born in Praxedis, Chih, Mexico to Manuel Rivera and Mariana Meza.
Pola was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was a homemaker, and in her younger years, had been a school teacher in Mexico and a live-in nanny in California. She was a woman of deep faith, loving, kind, and hardworking. Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her family, traveling, doing word-search puzzles, drawing, playing Loteria Mexican bingo, the casino, sewing, reading, and watching television game shows. Her most recent trips were to Texas, Florida, and Alaska.
Pola is survived by her daughters, Josefina "Josie" Amaya, Ana Hogue (husband John), and Maricruz "Mari" Morse (husband Richard); grandchildren, Mario Sena (wife Sky), Tanya Sena (wife Karis), Jackie LaBonte Carter (husband Gerren), Jennifer LaBonte Labayen (husband Laurence), Justin Morse, Jacob Morse; great grandchildren: Jayla, Deion, and Matthew Carter; Abigail, Madison, and Camille Labayen; Brooklyn, Zeb, and Emmie Sena; Wrenley and Keston Sena. She is also survived by her sister, Juanita Lopez; cousin, Socorro Garcia; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pola was preceded in death by her husband, Silvestre Amaya, of over 60 years in marriage; 13 siblings.
Pola’s daughters would like to send their gratitude and appreciation for the prayers, visits, food, flowers, and sympathy cards.
Services for Pola will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 705 Delaware Ave, Alamogordo, New Mexico. Viewing will be held at 9:30 am with Rosary recited at 10:00 am. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Pola will be laid to rest at 2:00 pm following the Mass at Mount Carmel Cemetery, 401 S. Zaragoza Rd, El Paso, Texas.
Pallbearers include John Hogue, Richard Morse, Justin Morse, Jacob Morse, Jayla Carter, Deion Carter, Matthew Carter, Gerren Carter, and Laurence Labayen.
