In Memory of Fred Elliott

Fred, a longtime Alamogordo resident, passed away surrounded by his loving family at home in Alamogordo on Friday, March 27, 2026.

Fred was born on December 8, 1949, to David and Irene Elliott in Detroit, Michigan.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years Louise; his sister, Carol (Lee); his nephew, Jeff (Anne) and their son Aiden. He was proceeded in death by his father, David and mother, Irene; niece, Lori Anne; his in-laws, Fred and Claudelia Hammack. Family was of the utmost importance to him, and we will forever miss him until we meet again.

Fred was a member of Our Lady of the Light (OLOL) Catholic Church in La Luz, NM where he served faithfully as an usher and for many years with the Food Pantry Ministry. He served in any volunteer capacity whenever any need arose. He was also a member of the volunteer team maintaining The Catholic Cemetery in Alamogordo for many years. He cherished his countless friendships at (OLOL) and the cemetery. Fred’s life was one of service to mankind in any capacity or when he saw a fellow human being in need and could help or make a difference. He also extended that compassion to any animal in need. He wasn’t above pursuing an abandoned animal for days to get it to safety and care. From the time he was young growing up in the Detroit area, cars and baseball were his favorite pastimes and remained throughout his life. The Detroit Tigers were his lifelong team. Fred enlisted in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Era Veteran. He started working at age 14 beside his dad in the grocery business, shagging buggies in the parking lot and rising to assistant manager prior to enlisting in the service.

As a friend, Fred was loyal for life and would do anything for them.

He and his best friend, Danny Bishop, met in the Air Force. They both settled in Alamogordo after discharge spending hours working on cars, laughing and telling stories way into the night for years. Later his love of cars brought him to The Golden Gears Car Club where he enjoyed many years of car activities and new friendships.

Earlier in his career, Fred worked at the High-Speed Test Track at Holloman AFB, then advancing through formal education to become a Geodesist where he retired from NGA.

The world has forever lost a special light.

Date and times of Rosary and Funeral Mass are pending at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church, 4 La Luz Road, La Luz, NM 88337.
