Ruth (Jutzeler) Gebhardt, 84, a resident of Alamogordo since 1977, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, November 2, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on December 5, 1940, in Grossthöchstetten, Canton Bern, Switzerland to Karl and Anna (Fankhauser) Jutzeler.
Survivors include her son, Carl Jr. (Diane) and their two sons, Nicholas and Dylan; daughter, Anita (Al) Berghold and their two daughters, Kathryn (Ethan) Moheit and Holly; daughter, Susan (Brian) MacWilliams and their three children, Shaina, Joshua, and Krista. She is also survived by her sister, Ursula Walther-Jutzeler; her brother, Arnold (Elona) Jutzeler; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Gebhardt; her parents, Karl and Anna Jutzeler; brother, Kurt Jutzeler.
Ruth and Carl met in Switzerland where he was visiting relatives. Ruth was asked to act as his interpreter, having recently returned from England where she worked as an Au pair. Carl often came from Germany where he was stationed in the Air Force near Bitburg. They could always stay with Ruth's parents in Grossthöchstetten, Canton Bern or with relatives on Carl's side of the family in the Bernese Oberland.
On July 6, 1963, they were married in the church in Grossthöchstetten. Shortly after, Ruth moved to the USA and became a US Citizen. Carl was in the Air Force for 20 years, so they lived in many different places while raising their three children.
In Retirement, Carl and Ruth traveled extensively across the United States and the world. When they were not traveling, they volunteered with ELCA Mission Builders in Fond Du Lac, WI, Eagle Pass, TX, and Ontario, OR.
Ruth really enjoyed being part of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the Quilting group.
Family was very important to Ruth. She loved getting the family together, especially for the holidays.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Ruth’s life will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 E 1st Street in Alamogordo, NM.
We would like to thank everybody for their Kindness and Friendship during this difficult time.
