In Memory of Charles Martin Oliva

Charles Martin Oliva was born on Friday, December 16, 1955 in Caracas, Venezuela. He died on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Betty Dare Nursing Home in Alamogordo, NM. His father was Daniel Oliva Guerrero (diseased) and his mother Bertha Moncayo (diseased). From the age of 12 he went to live in Los Angeles, CA. In 2002 he moved to Alamogordo, NM where he bought his home and worked at the telecommunications company AT&T. He has 2 sons, Daniel and Alan Oliva, and a daughter Giselle Marie Oliva Mendez.

His parents Daniel Oliva Guerrero (Dominican origin) and Bertha Moncayo (Guayaquil Ecuador origin) met in the prosperous, monetary and rich in oil and gold city, Caracas, Venezuela; where they had 4 children: Luis, Carlos Manuel (who changed his name to the English language Charles Martin), Marie and finally, Jorge (rest in peace, deceased 2018). As a result of his father Daniel suffering from leukemia cancer, he returned to his country Santo Domingo, DR. Daniel died when Charles was 11 years old and then at the age of 12, he immigrated to Los Angeles, CA with his mother Bertha and his siblings.

From the age of 6, he animated cartoon films such as "Little Lulu," "Popeye," "The Flintstones," and "Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs." He drew them on a piece of paper and cardboard, then would take a concrete cement block, light a candle and place the images in front to animate the cartoons. He loved to take photos and videos. With his extreme love and passion for video production and cinematography, he made his daughter Giselle Marie pose behind his photographic lens in Los Angeles, CA. He studied production and communications with the Marines. He knew how to do wiring electrical and telecommunications for telephones. He also practiced auto mechanics to repair and collect vintage cars. Worked as a security guard for the Cerebral Palsy and Spastic Adult and Children Foundation of Los Angeles, CA 1979-1995.

Charles enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corps in 1971 at the age of 16. Then joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 1984-2013 at the age of 28 as a Cryptologic Linguist. He received NATO Afghanistan Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal (2nd award), Army Achievement Medal (2nd award), Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Defense Service Medal (2nd award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd medal), Afghanistan Campaign Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Non Commissioned Officer Professional.

Charles and his wife Raquel met while studying image and video production in Los Angeles, CA. Ruben, a friend of Charles, and he recorded a supposed "interview" on the topic of philosophy and psychology. Charles acted as the interviewer and Ruben as "Dr. Moctezuma." They also filmed videos at weddings. Charles recorded and produced the videos while Raquel handled the set design. Their hobby was to produce video clips for artists in their free time.

The family will greet friends from 10:30 am to 11:30 am on May 5, 2025, at Scenic Chapel, 1334 N. Scenic Dr, Alamogordo, NM. Burial will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Rd, El Paso, TX.

The Oliva family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Scenic Chapel to direct the services.

A raíz de que su padre Daniel padeció de cáncer de leucemia, regreso a su país Santo Domingo, DR. Daniel murió cuando Charles tenía 11 años y luego a los 12 años, emigro a Los Angeles, CA junto a su madre Bertha y sus hermanos.

Desde los 6 años de edad hacia películas de animated cartoons. Los dibujaba en un pedazo de papel y cartón. Tomaba un block de cemento de concreto, encendía una vela y la colocaba detrás para que se viera la imagen de la película de animated cartoons como “La Pequeña Lulu,” “Popeye Marino Soy,” “Pedro, Marmol, Vilma y Pablo Familia de los Picapiedras,” “Blancanieves y los 7 Enanitos.” Con su extremo amor y pasion a la producción de videos y cinematografía hacía posar a su hija Giselle Marie detrás de su lente Fotográfico en Los Angeles, CA. Estudio producción y comunicaciones con los marines. Sabía hacer cableado eléctrico y de telecomunicaciones para teléfonos. También practicaba mecánica automotriz para reparar y coleccionar carros viejos. Trabajo como guardia de seguridad para Cerebral Palsy and Spastic Adult and Children Foundation of Los Angeles, CA 1979-1995.

Ruben, amigo de Charles, y el grabaron una supuesta “entrevista” sobre el tema de filosofía y psicología. Charles actuaba como el entrevistador y Ruben como “El Doctor Moctezuma.” Tomaban video en bodas. Charles grababa y producía los videos mientras Raquel hacia la escenografía. También producían video clips de artistas en su tiempo libre como hobbie.

La familia recibirá a sus amigos de 10:30 a.m. a 11:30 a.m. el 5 de mayo de 2025 en Scenic Chapel, 1334 N. Scenic Dr, Alamogordo, NM. El entierro se llevará a cabo en Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Rd, El Paso, TX.
