Stanley Lynn Shelton was born February 23, 1944 in Leon, Iowa. Stan died April 19, 2024 in Tonopah, AZ from a sudden affliction of cancer. His parents were Gerald and Marcilee Shelton farming east of Lineville, IA. Bradley was thrilled to have a brother. Nancy in 1945 completed the family. Stan showed dairy calves at the Wayne County Fair.
Because of Marcilee's rheumatoid arthritis they all moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1956. Stan had many friends at Papago Elementary. He joined the US Navy after his junior year graduating from North Phoenix High in 1962. He then went to sea on the USS Frontier as a deckhand.
He married Vickie and they had beautiful daughters Jammie and Stacy. He worked as a steel fence salesman on large projects in AZ, OR, WA and TX. He took pride in accurate measures for the fence and calculating a fair price. He was a truck driver, too. Stan became an expert horseman and trainer competing in reining and sliding in TX.
After retirement he moved near his sister in Snowflake, AZ with his prized truck and horses and then to Tonopah.
He did not like to dwell on the past and could be quite stubborn at times.
He is survived by daughters Jammie (Tom) Evans, Vancouver, WA and Stacy Hughes, Aubrey, TX. Grandchildren Blaine and Darian Evans and Valerie Hughes and great-grands Braxton and Atticus. Siblings Brad (Martha) Shelton, Alamogordo, NM and Nancy (Robert) Noble, Tonopah, AZ. And his beloved horses Hickory and Dyno.
Cremains will be spread (with permission) on the Decatur, TX Grasslands with a memorial service July 20.
