Two Men Arrested, Two Others Cited After Road-Rage Incident Turns Into Gunfire on Florida Avenue

Alamogordo, NM — July 18, 2026 - Two Alamogordo men face multiple felony charges following a chaotic confrontation on Florida Avenue that briefly halted traffic, drew a large law enforcement response, and led investigators to a separate drive-by shooting earlier that same day, according to the Alamogordo Police Department.

The incident began around 2 p.m. on July 17 when an APD patrol officer came upon two vehicles stopped in westbound traffic at the intersection of Florida Avenue and Indian Wells Road. According to police, several people had gotten out of their cars and were engaged in a heated argument when the situation escalated sharply — one man pulled out a handgun while another from the same vehicle brandished a machete. The officer reported watching the armed man fire the handgun into the air.

While the investigation remains active, police have filed charges against four people so far.

Prak Phoev, 22, of Alamogordo, was arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit a violent felony and four counts of aggravated assault.

Ronald Wilson, 22, also of Alamogordo, faces identical charges: conspiracy to commit a violent felony and four counts of aggravated assault.

Both men were booked into the Otero County Detention Center, where they remain held pending their first court appearances.

Two additional men were cited and released rather than jailed. Gabriel Pistilli, 27, was charged with criminal damage to property, while Christopher Conley, 23, was charged with accessory to commit criminal damage to property.

Police say the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges or arrests are possible as detectives continue piecing together the connection between the Florida Avenue confrontation and the earlier drive-by shooting on Aspen Street.
