Alamogordo, NM – Families across the Alamogordo area are invited to kick off the 2026-2027 school year with a fun-filled Back to School Block Party hosted by Alamogordo Public Schools.
The free community event will take place on Friday, July 31, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 805 12th Street, located across from the Post Office. Attendees can swing by to receive free backpacks and school supplies while enjoying a neighborhood block party atmosphere.
This marks another year in APS’s popular annual tradition. Last year’s event drew strong community participation, building on the success of prior gatherings. In 2025, the Annual event attracted an estimated 3,000–4,000 attendees at the APS Administration Complex on Hawaii Avenue. Organizers distributed over 1,000 free backpacks and thousands of school supplies, conducted 106 free sports physicals in partnership with CHRISTUS Health, provided 100 free haircut vouchers, and offered a wide range of family resources from 25 community partners. Families also enjoyed live entertainment from the Alamogordo High School Tiger Band, giant games, food trucks, STEM demonstrations, and information from various APS departments.
The upcoming 2026 event continues this tradition of serving as a “one-stop-shop” to help students and families prepare for the new school year with essential supplies, information, and community connections.

two very difference visions of what our government should look like, and how it should function...one is, go along to get along - the other says search for the truth. it is past time for the truth to be told, to not spare the horses, to let the chips fall where they may.
whose side are you on?
I thought I read here that John Block sux ****? That's not cool. It's a sin.
A sin? According to whose invisible friend? Yours? Those aluminum cans are calling.
block is JAR - just another republican - co-operating to "block" the evidence that their dear leader was involved in plenty of the nastiest of the epstein shenanigans. i can only hope that the survivors, and the public, live long enough for the truth to be revealed.
I think I read here a month ago that John Block sux cokc? That's not dignified of our leadership. It's a sin.

this situation reflects the fact that doing everything on the cheap, and only using band-aids when problems arise - and problems ALWAYS arise - is going to end up just like this. people who ignore REALITY wind up needing CHARITY to solve the problems that they crea
We appreciate that Mayor McDonald is being proactive on the water infrastructure issue. We feel there may be a reckoning regarding the water issue in the Southwest in the not too distant future. We also appreciate the informative reporting. Keep up the good work!
Wow Stu! Spoken like a person that never got punched in the mouth and it shows. Secondly, I’m not sure proactive is the right term when you state after years of neglect. Does this mean water infrastructure becomes a priority or attempts at Natatoriums and pretty signs?
We need a qualified person, not someone who ran on race.
You said so many important things here, and I really commend you for your strength and dedication to advocate for these important issues. It is especially important for those impacted to have their voices heard. Thank you.
