Congratulations to Sheriff Black on winning Western States Sheriff's Association SHERIFF OF THE YEAR! Otero County and the city of Alamogordo’s business community of New York Avenue is proud of your accomplishment.

Perusing public safety issues that impact western sheriffs since 1993 is the goal of the Association. The Western Sheriffs Association Mission is to Assist Sheriffs with federal & state issues & policy, Develop guidelines to promote uniformity in important matters, and to work to keep the office strong.

Sheriff of the Year WSSA has a long history of recognizing the accomplishments of success with its members. For the past several years they have selected one of the member Sheriffs to receive the associations “Sheriff of the Year” award.

Nominations are taken from the membership, considered and selected by a commitment of peers. A vote is taken and recognition is awarded to sheriffs of the highest pedigree and honor to the rule of law and equitable Justice.
