Child abuse arrests, domestic violence and DWIs fill Alamogordo police log for Sept. 21–27

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — Three child abuse arrests, eight domestic violence cases and five DWI arrests were among the incidents Alamogordo police logged between Sept. 21 and Sept. 27, 2026.

The department's weekly activity log lists 59 arrests, citations and juvenile referrals for the week, plus one recovered stolen vehicle. Most of those arrested were booked into the Otero County Detention Center (OCDC) pending court appearances.

The log covers major activity only and does not include every call for service. Everyone listed is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Child abuse

Three adults were arrested on child abuse charges, and all three were booked into OCDC.

  • Sept. 21: A woman was arrested after an investigation by the state Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD).
  • Sept. 23: A man was arrested at his home on an Otero County Magistrate Court warrant.
  • Sept. 26: A man was charged with child abuse resulting in great bodily harm after a second CYFD investigation.

Assault and domestic violence

Two men were arrested on aggravated assault charges after separate disturbances on Sept. 21. One was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, the other with two counts of aggravated assault.

Eight cases involved offenses against household members:

  • Sept. 21: A man was arrested for battery against a household member after a disturbance.
  • Sept. 21: A man stopped in traffic was arrested on two Magistrate Court warrants for aggravated stalking and battery against a household member.
  • Sept. 22: A man stopped in traffic was arrested on a warrant for criminal damage to the property of a household member.
  • Sept. 23: A man was arrested at his home on a warrant for burglary of a vehicle, battery against a household member, disorderly conduct and harassment.
  • Sept. 23: Two 13-year-old girls were referred to juvenile probation in separate domestic cases. One was referred for criminal damage to a household member's property, the other for battery and criminal damage.
  • Sept. 25: A man was arrested for battery on a household member.
  • Sept. 26: A man was arrested for assault against a household member and criminal damage to a household member's property.

In other cases, a man was arrested Sept. 22 for assault on a peace officer, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and impersonating a peace officer. A man was cited Sept. 27 for battery and criminal damage to property after a disturbance.

Drugs

Seven people faced drug charges, three of them arrested with the White Mountain Drug Task Force.

  • Sept. 23: A man was arrested with the task force on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.
  • Sept. 24: A man was arrested with the task force on a warrant for trafficking a controlled substance, possession and drug paraphernalia.
  • Sept. 24: A woman was arrested on a warrant for possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence and drug paraphernalia.
  • Sept. 26: A man was arrested with the task force and charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Three others were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia alongside other offenses: a trespassing arrest on Sept. 21, a warrant arrest on Sept. 22 and a citation on Sept. 24.

DWI and alcohol offenses

Officers made five DWI arrests during the week.

  • Sept. 22: A woman was arrested for DWI and other traffic infractions after a traffic stop.
  • Sept. 24: A woman was arrested for DWI involving liquor or drugs after a disturbance call.
  • Sept. 25: A woman was arrested for DWI and minor allowing self to be served after a traffic stop. She was released on her own recognizance.
  • Sept. 26: A man was arrested for DWI and open container after a traffic stop.
  • Sept. 27: A man was arrested after a hit-and-run for DWI, failing to give immediate notice of an accident and open container. He was released on his own recognizance.

Four 17-year-olds were referred to juvenile probation for alcohol offenses. Two boys were referred Sept. 24 from the same disturbance that led to a DWI arrest and a resisting arrest.

A third boy was referred in a case that also brought drinking-in-public citations for two men on Sept. 25. A girl located after a runaway report on Sept. 27 was referred and released to a parent.

Theft and property crimes

Officers recovered a stolen vehicle Sept. 24 in the 1500 block of Hawaii Avenue and returned it to its owner. Two people were contacted during stolen vehicle investigations that day: one was arrested on an unrelated warrant, the other cited for drug paraphernalia and traffic violations. The log lists no vehicle theft charge for either and says the investigation continues.

  • Shoplifting: Two people were cited, a woman on Sept. 22 and a man on Sept. 23 at the Circle K at 657 S. White Sands Blvd.
  • Vehicle burglary: One man was arrested Sept. 23 on a warrant that included burglary of a vehicle.
  • Shopping carts: Two men were charged with removal and abandonment of shopping carts, one on Sept. 23 and one on Sept. 24.

Trespassing and public disorder

Six cases involved trespassing, including three arrests on Sept. 21 alone.

  • Trespassing: The Sept. 21 arrests were paired with drug paraphernalia, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct charges. Two more cases came Sept. 22, one on a Municipal Court warrant for public nuisance and trespassing. A man was arrested Sept. 27 for trespassing and concealing identity.
  • Resisting an officer: Three people were charged with resisting, evading or obstructing an officer, on Sept. 21, 24 and 25.
  • Public affray: A man and a woman were cited after the same disturbance on Sept. 27.
  • Public nuisance: A man was arrested Sept. 21 for public nuisance and pedestrians on roadways after a welfare check.
  • Noise: A man was cited Sept. 24 for unreasonable noise after a complaint.

Warrants and traffic offenses

Thirteen entries were warrants for missed court dates, unpaid fines or release violations, the largest single category of the week.

  • Failure to appear: Nine people were arrested. Five warrants came from Alamogordo Municipal Court, two from District Court, one from Tularosa Municipal Court and one from Doña Ana County Magistrate Court.
  • Failure to pay fines: Two women were served warrants at Municipal Court and released to the court.
  • Release and probation violations: One man was arrested on a probation and parole (APO) violation order. Another, already held at OCDC, was served a District Court warrant for failing to comply with conditions of release.

Two traffic stops led to arrests beyond the DWI cases. A man was arrested Sept. 23 for concealing identity and driving on a suspended or revoked license. A man was arrested Sept. 25 for driving while revoked, reckless driving, no insurance, a registration violation and resisting an officer.
