ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — Alamogordo High School closes Homecoming Week Friday with a bayou-themed parade down Cuba Avenue and a 5A District 2 football game against the Mayfield Trojans under the lights at Tiger Stadium.
The theme is “A Night on the Bayou.” The parade steps off at 3 p.m. from Alamogordo High School, travels north on Cuba Avenue, then west on 10th Street to Maryland Avenue. Student floats, the band, cheer squads, and community entries are expected along the route. Drivers should plan for temporary slowdowns on Cuba, 10th, and Maryland through the afternoon.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Tiger Stadium, 103 Cuba Ave. The Tigers (2-4, 1-2 in district) host Mayfield (2-4) in a district matchup both teams need. Alamogordo’s last outing was a 54-19 home loss to Artesia on Sept. 25. Mayfield arrives off a 38-22 win over Deming on Sept. 25. Head coach AJ Cisco’s Tigers opened the season with a 41-33 win over Santa Fe and a 28-27 road win at Goddard, and have dropped games to Clovis, Organ Mountain, Roswell, and Artesia.
District materials have framed the week under the slogan “Return the Roar,” with Alamogordo Public Schools asking residents and businesses to stay in black and gold through Saturday, Oct. 3. Homecoming Week began Sept. 28. Wednesday’s powderpuff games raised money for the junior and senior classes. Individual game tickets are sold on the APS website and through the Hometown Tickets app. Season passes covering sports at all levels remain available. Saturday brings a junior-varsity football home date, another chance for families already in town for the parade and varsity game.
For more than seven decades, Alamogordo’s homecoming has been as much a reunion as a football game: alumni on the sidewalks, storefronts in school colors, and a Friday night that still draws the town to Tiger Stadium. Friday’s doubleheader of parade and kickoff is the center of that week.
