Albuquerque, NM – Alamogordo High School’s tennis teams made their presence felt at the 5A State Tournament this week at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center, with several athletes advancing deep into the bracket before falling to strong opponents on Wednesday.
In Girls Doubles, the No. 6-seeded duo of Bella Romero and Shelby Romero battled hard but came up short against Aubrey Romero and Etsuko Yamaguchi of Santa Fe, falling in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
In Boys Singles, Tate Westover faced a tough test against No. 4 seed Cristian Olson of Albuquerque High. Olson cruised to a dominant straight-set victory 6-0, 6-0.
In Girls Singles, Talee Westover competed against the No. 3 seed Lily Walker of Cleveland High. Walker proved too strong, winning 6-2, 6-1.
Despite the losses on Wednesday, all of Alamogordo’s competitors earned congratulations for reaching the state tournament and representing their school at the highest level.
Looking Ahead
The Alamogordo Girls Team will continue their state tournament run on Friday at 11 a.m., facing La Cueva in the team bracket at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center.

Alamogordo’s tennis program showed impressive depth and competitiveness throughout the season, with multiple athletes earning berths at the state level. The community looks forward to the girls team’s matchup on Friday as they continue to battle for a strong finish at state.
