Shrek The Musical Premieres This Weekend at Flickinger Center in Alamogordo

Alamogordo, NM – Families across Otero County and beyond are gearing up for a swamp-tastic adventure as the Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo brings the beloved story of Shrek The Musical to the stage this weekend and next at the Flickinger Center for Performing Arts.

The production, based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and Broadway hit, follows the story of a grumpy green ogre named Shrek who lives alone in his swamp. His peaceful existence is upended when fairy-tale creatures evicted by the tyrannical Lord Farquaad invade his home. To reclaim his swamp, Shrek strikes a deal to rescue Princess Fiona, embarking on a hilarious journey filled with a wisecracking Donkey, a fierce Dragon, and plenty of fairy-tale misfits. The musical features catchy songs, humor, and heartwarming messages about acceptance, friendship, and being true to yourself.

The Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo, founded in 2018 by Teresa Ham and Heather Bash, is a performance group and educational organization dedicated to bringing art, theater, dance, and music to young people in Otero and Lincoln Counties. Participants come from communities including Alamogordo, Tularosa, La Luz, High Rolls, Cloudcroft, Mayhill, Ruidoso, and Holloman Air Force Base. The group recently congratulated its Shrek cast after an extensive audition process.

This family-friendly production promises ogre-sized fun for all ages and continues the theater’s tradition of high-quality local youth performances.
