Local Golf Roundup: Alamogordo Boys Win Chaparral Invite, Girls Take 2nd; Mescalero Apache Boys Place 9th at Leroy Gooch Invitational - Alamogordo

High school golf teams from Otero County were in action this week, with strong showings at two different tournaments.

Chaparral Invite at Painted Dunes Golf Course (El Paso, TX)

The Alamogordo High School boys golf team claimed 1st place with a team score of 310, while the girls team finished 2nd with a score of 352 at the Chaparral Invite held at Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course in El Paso.

Alamogordo Boys Individual Results:

• Landon Wright – T-4th (78)

• Kolton Stagner – T-4th (78)

• Andrez Montoya – 7th (80)

• Jacobi Saldevar – 8th (81)

• Brody Wright – 9th (82)

Alamogordo Girls Individual Results:

• Ellie Clore – 3rd (85)

• Tatum Wright – T-5th (88)

• Ava Armijo – 7th (89)

• Kylee Wright – T-8th (90)

• Annelisia Herrera – 15th (97)

The Tiger boys dominated the leaderboard with five players finishing in the top nine, showcasing excellent depth. The girls also posted a competitive score, led by Ellie Clore’s strong third-place finish.

Both Alamogordo teams will next compete at the Roswell Spring Classic on Monday, April 20, at Spring River and NMMI Golf Courses.

Leroy Gooch Invitational in Ruidoso (Monday & Tuesday)

The Mescalero Apache High School boys golf team finished 9th overall at the Leroy Gooch Invitational, held Monday and Tuesday in Ruidoso. The team posted scores of 374 on day one and 366 on day two.

Mescalero Apache Boys Individual Results:

• Levi Apachito – T-30th (87-94)

• Deacon Martinez – 35th (94-90)

• Landyn Hiles – 36th (98-87)

• Roy Lent – 41st (95-95)

• Jason Wilson – T-54th (124-115)

Mescalero Apache Girls Individual Results:

• K-Rae Chino – 19th (110-106)

The Warriors showed improvement on the second day, with several players lowering their scores. Mescalero Apache will also compete at the Roswell Spring Classic on Monday at Spring River and NMMI Golf Courses.

These results highlight the growing strength of local golf programs in the region. Both teams now look ahead to the Roswell event as the season progresses toward district and state competition.
