Mean Girls: The Musical” Brings Broadway-Worthy Sass, Wit, and Heart to Alamogordo’s Flickinger Center - AlamogordoTownNews.org

Alamogordo, NM – April 3, 2026 – Alamogordo Music Theatre (AMT) is gearing up for one of its most anticipated productions yet: the hit Broadway musical “Mean Girls”, based on Tina Fey’s beloved 2004 comedy film. With sharp satire, infectious songs, and a timely message about cliques, friendship, and self-discovery, this community theater mounting promises to deliver the same plastic-fueled chaos and laugh-out-loud moments that made the original a cultural phenomenon.

The story centers on Cady Heron, a homeschooled teen who spent her childhood in the African bush studying wildlife with her zoologist parents. When her family moves to suburban Chicago and she enrolls in public high school for the first time, Cady is thrust into a ruthless social jungle. Quickly befriended by outcasts Janis Sarkisian and Damian Hubbard, she hatches a plan to infiltrate “The Plastics” — the school’s elite clique led by the fearsome queen bee Regina George and her loyal (yet dramatic) followers Gretchen Wieners and Karen Smith. What begins as a clever revenge plot spirals into a hilarious and surprisingly heartfelt journey about popularity, betrayal, identity, and what it really means to belong.

The Broadway production (which opened in 2018 with book by Tina Fey, music by Jeff Richmond, and lyrics by Nell Benjamin) earned widespread acclaim for its witty dialogue and high-energy performances. It received 12 Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Book of a Musical. Critics raved about its blend of caustic humor and heart: The New York Times called it a show where “the jokes, poses, and put-downs… are a lot more entertaining than the more earnestly aspirational doings” of other girl-power musicals, praising Fey’s “caustic and polite” satirical sensibility that “stings and soothes at once.” Audiences and reviewers alike highlighted standout numbers like “Sexy,” the comedic relief from characters like Damian (“too gay to function”), and the infectious cafeteria scene in “Where Do You Belong.”

Local audiences can expect the same crowd-pleasing energy in AMT’s production, which features an all-local cast of talented Alamogordo-area performers — many of them returning favorites from past AMT shows.

Spotlight on Key Cast Members

Dresden Goodwin as Cady Heron: The wide-eyed newcomer brings innocence, vulnerability, and growing confidence to the lead role, anchoring the show’s emotional journey from outsider to insider and back again.

Ardrianna Sharp as Regina George: Sharp steps into the iconic queen-bee shoes with charisma, sass, and just the right touch of menace — expect her to steal every scene as the ultimate mean girl.

Jordynn Marelich as Gretchen Wieners and Kamanaolana Belisario-Kalili as Karen Smith: These two deliver the perfect mix of over-the-top loyalty and hilarious ditziness that made “The Plastics” legendary.

Clarissa Lamer as Janis Sarkisian and Christopher Medina as Damian Hubbard: The dynamic duo of outcasts provides nonstop comedic relief and heartfelt friendship moments; Medina, in particular, is poised to light up the stage with Damian’s larger-than-life personality and show-stopping vocals.

Bradley Oliver as Aaron Samuels and Hannah Delay as Ms. Norbury: Oliver brings the charming (and slightly clueless) love interest to life, while Delay nails the dry wit and wisdom of the math teacher who serves as the show’s moral compass.

Rounding out the strong ensemble are Patrick Cruz, Sheema Ellsworth, Tina George, Katie Grabowski, Tyler Wren Hutchins, Bianca Lechuga, Aiden Mai, Madison Miller, Robin Milne, Beck Natalini, Millianne Reedy, Selena Robinson, Elijah Strickland, Jonece Tallant, and Orlando Zapata — adding depth, energy, and vocal power to the high school world.
