ALAMOGORDO, NM — The Flickinger Center for Performing Arts, a cornerstone of culture on New York Avenue, is preparing to host a diverse array of talent as the 2026 performance season hits its stride. From Nashville rising stars to homegrown community theater, the upcoming schedule promises to offer something for every member of the Tularosa Basin.
Country Music and Brazilian Rhythms
Kicking off the March highlights, the "most talked-about singer in Nashville," Tony Jackson, is set to take the stage today, Saturday, March 7, at 7:00 PM. Jackson, a Marine veteran and Grand Ole Opry regular, has garnered over 100 million video views. His smooth vocals and traditional country sound are expected to draw a significant crowd.
Following closely on Saturday, March 14, the center will transform into a vibrant musical tour of South America with Brazil Beyond Samba. Led by Caro Pierotto and the quartet Farofa, this performance will guide the audience through the "smokin' hot" rhythms of the BR-101 highway, featuring originals and covers in Portuguese, Spanish, and English.
Community and Children’s Theater Spotlight
The local stage is buzzing as Alamogordo’s own theater groups prepare for major productions this spring and fall.
• Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo (CMToA): Young performers are currently in rehearsals for the family-friendly adventure "Shrek the Musical!" After a rigorous four-hour audition process, the cast is ready to bring the swamp to life.
• Performance Dates: May 1, 2, 8, and 9 at 7:00 PM; and a matinee on May 3 at 2:00 PM.
• Alamogordo Music Theatre (AMT): Celebrating over 50 years of community theater, AMT is bringing the "Plastics" to town with "Mean Girls: The Musical." While the spring is dedicated to this sharp, hilarious production, the group has also teased a fall production of "Sister Act" scheduled for late October.

Global Sounds and Local Impact
In late April, the Flickinger welcomes Quarteto Nuevo, an ensemble known for merging Western classical forms with global rhythms. The Flickinger Center remains a vital hub for fostering creativity, hosting over 40,000 guests annually. As tickets for these popular shows—especially the community theater runs—often sell out, residents are encouraged to visit the box office or the official website early.
"The Flickinger is more than just a building; it's a historic space dedicated to enriching lives and inspiring future creatives." — Gerard Gibbs, Executive Director.
