Alamogordo High School sophomore Stanley Burton has been named this week’s Tiger Athlete of the Week for his outstanding performance in the Tigers Powerlifting program.
Burton, competing in the 220-pound weight class, captured 1st place at the Alamogordo Classic on January 31, 2026, with a strong total of 1,115 pounds (465 squat, 215 bench, 435 deadlift) at a bodyweight of 217.4 pounds. His lift helped the Tigers boys team sweep the team title, while the Alamogordo girls also took 1st overall in a dominant showing at their home meet.
Head Coach Drefs and the entire Tiger Powerlifting program continue to build momentum early in the 2026 season as they prepare for the NMAA State Championships scheduled for April 10-11 in Rio Rancho.

Boys Basketball – FINAL
Mescalero Apache 58, Cloudcroft 50 – District 3-2A Tournament
Avin Yellowcloud led the Chiefs with 16 points, Landyn Hiles added 13, Shywin Chaffins had 12, and Deacon Martinez scored 7.
The Chiefs improve to 13-14 and advance to face Mesilla Valley Christian on Saturday in the District 3-2A Tournament Championship Game.
The Bears finish the season at 13-14.
Boys Basketball – FINAL
Centennial 65, Alamogordo 60 – District 3-5A Tournament
Jaedyn Hernandez led the Tigers with 21 points, Aaron Herrera had 13, and Julian Favela chipped in 12.
The Tigers conclude the regular season at 17-11.
Girls Basketball – FINAL
Tularosa 50, Ruidoso 41 – District 4-3A Tournament
Emma Ostic led the Lady Cats with 16 points and 5 rebounds, Acacia Mendez added 8 points and 4 steals, Jaleria Caje scored 6, Alivya Young had 5 points with 5 rebounds and 7 steals, and Kiah Zysk grabbed 6 rebounds.
The Lady Cats improve to 16-11 and will play at Dexter on Friday in the District 4-3A Tournament Championship Game.
Girls Basketball – FINAL
Mescalero Apache 56, Capitan 31 – District 3-2A Tournament
Kaylyn Chino led the Lady Chiefs with 17 points, Elizabeth Rocha had 12, and Taylynn Ahidley scored 10.
The Lady Chiefs improve to 12-15 and advance to face Lordsburg on Friday in the District 3-2A Tournament Championship Game.
