December 23, 2025 – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico has published its most recent weekly update on immigration and border-related criminal prosecutions, continuing a series of transparent reports under the Department of Justice’s Operation Take Back America.

This nationwide initiative mobilizes federal resources to repel illegal immigration, dismantle cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and shield New Mexico communities from associated violent crime along the state’s 180-mile border with Mexico.

Working hand-in-hand with U.S. Border Patrol’s El Paso Sector, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) El Paso, and other federal, state, and local partners, prosecutors in Albuquerque and Las Cruces handled a range of cases this reporting period.

Key specifics from the report include:

32 individuals charged with misdemeanor Illegal Entry (8 U.S.C. § 1325), often involving unauthorized crossings into restricted areas.

• Felony charges for Illegal Re-Entry After Deportation (8 U.S.C. § 1326) filed against multiple defendants, many with prior criminal histories.

• In a standout case, a criminal complaint was issued against David Serrano-Dominguez, a Mexican national illegally present in the United States. He faces charges of alien in possession of firearms, possession of an unregistered short-barrel rifle, and re-entry of a removed alien. Homeland Security Investigations agents arrested Serrano-Dominguez at an apartment complex in Deming, New Mexico, where he had been living.

• Additional enforcement actions highlighted the risks to law enforcement, including a sentencing this period: Enrique Rodriguez-Salazar received 11 months in prison for assault on a federal officer. Border Patrol agents had apprehended him on September 26, 2024, near the border wall in Santa Teresa, New Mexico, following his illegal re-entry.

The report stresses that protecting frontline officers is central to border security efforts and that interagency cooperation plays a vital role in deterring attacks on personnel.

These figures reflect only federal criminal prosecutions handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico and do not include individuals processed administratively by immigration authorities.

As border security remains a pressing issue for southern New Mexico residents, these weekly reports offer insight into federal actions aimed at enhancing public safety and accountability.
