Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo Brings “Frozen” to the Flickinger Stage This October

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — The magic of Arendelle is coming to Alamogordo this fall. The Children’s Music Theater of Alamogordo (CMTA), a resident program of the Flickinger Center for Performing Arts, will present “Frozen the Musical” for five performances in October, featuring 41 local children onstage, a live local orchestra, and 11 additional young people working behind the scenes on stage crew.

Performances are set for October 16, 17, 23, and 24 at 7:00 p.m., with a Sunday matinee on October 18 at 2:00 p.m.

“Frozen the Musical” is the stage adaptation of Disney’s beloved 2013 animated film, which became a worldwide phenomenon and one of the highest-grossing animated movies of all time. The stage version, with music and lyrics by the husband-and-wife songwriting team Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, premiered on Broadway in 2018, expanding the film’s score with new songs while keeping favorites like “Let It Go,” “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “Love Is an Open Door.”

At its heart, “Frozen” tells the story of two royal sisters, Elsa and Anna, who are separated in childhood after Elsa’s magical ice powers accidentally injure her younger sister. As Elsa struggles to hide who she is and Anna longs to reconnect, the story builds to a powerful message about love, courage, and self-acceptance — the idea that true love isn’t just romantic, but the bond between family, and that our differences are not something to fear. It’s a theme tailor-made for a cast of young performers finding their own voices on stage.

Leading the CMTA cast are Isabella Ochoa as Elsa and Kendall Kunihiro as Anna, joined by Caleb Crabtree as Hans, Eric Balogh as Kristoff, Caleb Cooper as Sven, Kylie Kunihiro as Olaf, and Gavin Shepherd as the Duke of Weselton. Elizabeth Reuter and Olivia Calles portray Young Elsa and Young Anna, with Olivia Davison and Evelyn George as Middle Elsa and Middle Anna. Rounding out the featured roles are Trent Hileman as Oaken, Samuel Thrasher as King Agnarr, Addison Gilliland as Queen Iduna, Asher Celoria as Pabbie, and Valerie Garcia as Bulda, supported by a 26-member ensemble.

The production highlights the depth of local talent in the Alamogordo community, from the young performers onstage to the musicians of the live orchestra in the pit and the students learning technical theater on the crew.
