Castillo Named Tiger Athlete of the Week; Soccer Stars Earn All-District Honors; Tularosa Football Wraps Season with Pride

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. — As the fall sports season winds down, Alamogordo High School celebrates the achievements of its student-athletes, with cross country standout Nizhoni Castillo earning top honors and several soccer players receiving All-District recognition. Meanwhile, Tularosa’s football team closed out a spirited season with a hard-fought playoff appearance.

 Nizhoni Castillo: Tiger Athlete of the Week

Nizhoni Castillo, a rising force on the Lady Tiger Cross Country team, who just completed their season named Tiger Athlete of the Week for her consistent excellence and leadership throughout the 2025 season. The honor, presented by 1230 AM Alamogordo Sports and sponsored by Tularosa Basin Telephone Company/Tularosa Communications, Inc. and The Winners’ Circle, recognizes student-athletes who exemplify dedication, sportsmanship, and performance.

Castillo’s season was marked by top finishes across district meets and a standout showing at the state qualifier, where she led the Lady Tigers with poise and endurance. Coaches praised her work ethic and quiet determination, noting her as a role model for younger runners.

Soccer: All-District 3-5A Honors for Tigers

The District 3-5A All-District Teams were announced this week, with several Alamogordo Tigers earning recognition for their contributions on the pitch.

Girls Soccer:

• 2nd Team: Nevaeh Boyle (Defender) — A stalwart on the back line, Boyle’s tactical awareness and tenacity anchored the defense all season.

• Honorable Mention: Olivia Morris (Midfielder), Zoey Spataro (Striker), Ashley Spataro (Striker) — Each brought energy and creativity to the Tigers’ attack, with the Spataro sisters forming a dynamic duo up front.

Boys Soccer:

• 2nd Team: Ryan Amberson (Midfielder) — A midfield engine, Amberson’s vision and control helped drive the Tigers’ transition play.

• Honorable Mention: Kyle Tamayo (Striker), Nakoa Perez (Midfielder) — Both players showed grit and flair, contributing key goals and assists throughout the season.

Tularosa Wildcats Fall in 2A State Tournament

In postseason football action, the No. 12 Tularosa Wildcats faced a formidable challenge in the 2A State Tournament First Round, falling to No. 5 Raton by a final score of 53–12.

Despite the loss, the Wildcats’ season was filled with memorable moments, including a strong district run and standout performances from a resilient roster. Coaches and fans alike applauded the team’s heart and growth.
