HOBBS — The Alamogordo High School swim teams made a determined showing at Saturday’s Tori’s Invite, with the girls placing 8th and the boys 11th in a field stacked with talent from across the region. The meet, held at the Hobbs Aquatic Center, marked a key mid-season test for the Tigers as they prepare for their next challenge at Albuquerque Academy this coming Saturday.
The girls’ team was led by strong relay performances, including a 6th-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The quartet of Temperance Covell, Parker Wade, Teagan Green, and Maeve Wierzbanowski clocked in at 4:55.30, showcasing both endurance and cohesion. The 200-yard medley relay team—Emilia Solis, Green, Rachel Carmody, and Wade—secured 9th place (2:23.47), while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Carmody, Covell, Wade, and Green took 10th (2:03.55).
Individually, Rachel Carmody emerged as a standout, placing 9th in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.04) and 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:23.10). Covell added depth with a 14th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (2:53.65) and 13th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:39.79). Wierzbanowski contributed with a 17th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (31.11) and 20th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:30.04).
On the boys’ side, Alamogordo’s relay teams held their own against stiff competition. The 200-yard medley relay team—Chase Rose, Landon Artiaga, Braylon Malone, and Leyton Niland—finished 10th (2:07.12), while the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Rose, Cruz Hernandez, Artiaga, and Malone placed 11th (1:48.90). The 400-yard freestyle relay team—Bradley Covell, Brayden Moncada, Caden Walker, and Niland—earned 9th (5:45.18).
Braylon Malone led the boys individually with an 8th-place finish in the grueling 500-yard freestyle (6:20.94). Hernandez showed versatility, placing 14th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:11.24) and 25th in the 50-yard freestyle (28.89). Rose added a 12th-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (1:13.95), while Walker rounded out the individual efforts with a 30th-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:14.47).
As the season progresses, both teams continue to build momentum and refine their technique. Saturday’s meet at Albuquerque Academy will offer another opportunity for the Tigers to test their speed and teamwork against top-tier competition.
