ALAMOGORDO, NM — A bomb threat made to the Betty Dare Good Samaritan Society on October 17, 2025, triggered a full-scale emergency response, leading to the evacuation of residents and a multi-agency investigation. The incident placed a significant strain on Alamogordo’s emergency services, diverting personnel and equipment from routine operations and other potential emergencies.
Located at 3101 N. Florida Avenue, Betty Dare is a long-standing senior care facility in Alamogordo. Law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the premises and found no suspicious packages or devices. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the evacuation.
Following an investigation by the Alamogordo Police Department Detective Division, Ravein Townsend, a 31-year-old Alamogordo resident and employee of Betty Dare, was arrested on October 23, 2025. Townsend has been charged with:
• 1 Count of Unlawful Bomb Scare, a fourth-degree felony.
She is currently being held at the Otero County Detention Center, pending her initial court appearance.
Community Impact and Response
The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols and emergency preparedness at local care facilities. Alamogordo Police emphasized the seriousness of false threats, which not only endanger vulnerable populations but also disrupt critical services across the city. This is one of multiple recent incidents of bomb threats including a recent one at Alamogordo High School and one last weekend resulting in both local Walmarts being evacuated. There is no proof of this arrest being tied to those incidents.
Officials are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. The multiple bomb threat investigations remain ongoing, and further updates will be provided as the cases proceed through the judicial system.
