Vice President Kamala Harris to Visit El Paso June 25th After her Recent Trip to Guatemala and Mexico (Alamogordo Town News)

Representative Yvette Herrell continues her obsession with the border wall with posts on her Facebook page containing border wall content, more than any other issue. Of the 23 days of June she has devoted 12 days worth of posts on the border, thus almost 50% of her posted content i to challenge the administration on its border policies and to invite the Vice President to the Border.

Representative Herrell has sent 2 letters to the Vice President encouraging her to visit the wall with her and the former president for what would certainly be a media circus. In a letter to the vice president May 24, the congresswoman also asked to accompany Harris on her upcoming trip to Mexico and Guatemala.

The Vice President has not responded to Representative Herrell directly and is asking for bi-partisan proposals and dialog without the ideological talking points coming from Florida. To no avail, now the Vice President has now announced a visit to the border in El Paso.

The first months of Biden's term have included a spike in migrant crossings at the southern border, including increases in the number of unaccompanied children crossing. Vice President Kamala Harris is set to visit El Paso on June 25, her chief spokesperson confirmed Wednesday in a statement.

There are still no exact details or agenda for the visit, but according to the statement, the goal is to “address the root causes of migration from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.”

The vice president was just in Guatemala and Mexico earlier this month in her first trip overseas since taking office for dialog with the leadership of each country specific to the border issues.

The trip was met with a whirlwind of criticism from all sides of the political aisle. Conservatives, particularly U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn of Texas, accused Harris of having her attention set on the wrong border, while progressives lambasted Harris after a video of her urging Guatemalan migrants to not come to the United States went viral — and questioned why Harris, a daughter of immigrants herself, would make such a remark.

The reality of the border issue is this has been an ongoing issue since the US Senate has refused to pass immigration reform since the proposal was made by President George W Bush.

Mr. Bush as president, was a Republican that campaigned on a big tent inclusiveness platform of which the party has since turned its back. Mr. Bush is now out of favor with the more extreme elements of the Republican party. Membership within the Republican party in the post Bush era has swung away from people of color with losses in membership of Hispanics and African Americans but there have been increases in poor white Americans from rural communities. Given the shift in demographic membership of the Republican party in the post Bush Era the door opened to the Trumpian nationalist whom are driving the immigration dialog of closed borders.

The crises at the border will continue to grow until which point both parties can learn the art of compromise, break away from ideological hard right and hard left stances and work on real solutions to nationalization and how to manage the flow of immigration.

What goal does Yvette Herrell and the other southern border representatives want to accomplish with a visit by the vice president? What bi-partisan proposals are being offered as solutions?

Time will tell as this PR dog and pony show being executed by both sides of the isle proceeds to no responsible policy changes and a continuation of decades of status quo immigration policy failure.
