On Monday, June 23, 2025, a joint special meeting between the Otero County Commission and Alamogordo City Commission will be held at the Sgt. Willie Estrada Memorial Civic Center (800 E. First Street, Alamogordo). The meeting will begin at 5:30pm.
The agenda includes discussion about the parking lot of the Otero County Fairgrounds. The City owns a portion of the fairgrounds property currently used for parking. There has been discussion about the City potentially developing a portion of the property.
Those against the proposal suggest that if development moves forward, it could reduce parking availability during the Otero Fair.
Proponents suggest that government entities within the county are setting on to much property much of which is abandoned or underutilized and not taxed but a drain on taxpayer dollars in upkeep and maintenance. Proponents argue Alamogordo needs business and growth and government should get out of the way and sell off surplus lands
Please consider attending the special meeting on Monday and listen to facts verses hysteria concerning this small portion of the property that is a part of the Otero County Fairgrounds.
Sunny, with a high of 98 and low of 71 degrees. Sunny in the morning, clear overnight.
An even more important story than making sure our nuclear bombs are up to date, is that just Wed. the supreme court has basically stated that Texas and another land owner had no standing in blocking a temporary nuclear storage facility that is planned for Texas and New Mexico.
Looking at the city's website, I don't see anything about 4th of July fireworks, so it looks like this is meant to replace the usual fireworks show.
According to the listed statistics, about 1/3 of these people could've and should've been off the streets before being caught in this operation.
